Wilson is a physicist who has made outstanding contributions to the physics of colloidal dispersions and colloid-polymer mixtures in the past. He has moved on to study bacteria, some work he will discuss in detail in his lectures. He has some very sharp ideas on how physics and its methods can contribute to the understanding of living things, and I believe his view (which shifts the focus away from molecular biology, towards small bacteria as the "atomic unit" of biophysics) is truly refreshing not only for physicists. Wilson's lectures are always very clear and entertaining.
