Christian Meyer is a professor of Sociology at the University of Konstanz since 2016. Since 2022 he is a member of the extended Directorate of the Centre for Human | Data | Society. He is the director of the Binational Center for Qualitative Methods (BZQM) of the University of Konstanz and the University of Education of Thurgau, Switzerland, as well as president of the Social Science Archive (Alfred Schutz Memorial Archive) at the University of Konstanz. Christian Meyer studied Anthropology, Sociology, and Linguistics at the University Heidelberg, the University of Montpellier III (Paul Valéry) and at the University of Mainz. In 1998, Christian Meyer obtained the master’s degree in Anthropology at the University of Mainz, followed by the doctorate in 2003. In 2011 he received his habilitation in Sociology and Social Anthropology at the Faculty for Sociology of the University of Bielefeld. Christian Meyer’s main interests are Social and Cultural Theory, Qualitative Methods, Embodied Interaction, Communication Theory, Data Practices, Digital Culture, and Media Sociology. His research focus includes the theoretical potentials of ethnomethodology and other variants of phenomenological and practice theories as well as on the exploration of sensory modalities in interaction, the increasing importance of technically generated interaction partners, on sustainability and racism.
