Hiroko Shimada-Kreft, CMC Manager at BioNTech

Dr Hiroko Shimada-Kreft earned her doctorate in medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology in Purdue University in Indiana, USA in 1998. 

After her doctorate she took a research associate position at the Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology, Rockville for a year, followed by an assistant professor position at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, Connecticut (CT)) between 1999-2003. From 2004 to 2008 she held a research fellowship at Yale University /National Institute of Health Ruth L. Kirschestein National Research Service Award Individual Fellowship, New Haven, CT.

Dr. Shimada-Kreft left academia and the US coast in 2008 at which point she became a Biotech Consultant for Trenzyme Ltd. in Konstanz for her first year in Germany. From 2009 to 2016 she moved to Nestlé in the Product Technology Centre in Singen. Subsequently, followed by a couple of years at Takeda Ltd. albeit, moving from a senior scientist position in laboratory technology service to analytical program lead up to the associate Director for Vaccine Research and Analytics in Vaccine Business Unit in 2021. In 2023, she joined BioNTech SE in her present role as Director CMC Technology in Strategic CMC Innovation unit.
