Preparatory language courses

Did you complete schooling in your home country that qualifies you to study at a university there? Or did you already study there? Would you like to study in Germany, and have you already got German language skills on at least level B1?

For most study programmes taught in German you will need to demonstrate language skills equivalent to level C1 CEFR. We offer a German language course for refugees to help you prepare for the respective language examination (TestDaF or Telc C1).

You can register online for the preparatory language course for refugees and/or make an appointment for a consultation. If the desired course is full we can take new applicants on our waiting list.

We are currently offering the following courses:

B2 from Mid-Octobre 2024 to the end of February 2025 -- 20h per week, i.e. Monday to Friday 8:15am - 11:30am. One morning will be held online, on the other days the course will take place at the University of Konstanz.

Or B2 course is financed according to VwV in cooperation with Landratsamt Konstanz.

Course fees

Course attendance is free. In return, we expect you to attend all classes, unless you have important reasons not to. You must inform us about your reasons for not attending class (e.g. illness). You owe this to those who would like to attend courses but have not been given a place in the program.

You will have to cover the cost for books yourself.

Recognition of certificate(s)

There are various authorities in Germany that can recognize your school or university certificate(s). You should contact the correct authority for your specific certificate(s). We recommend that you obtain advice on which authority is responsible for your certificate(s).

If you would like to apply for a study program at the University of Konstanz, please apply directly to the university. The university will review your certificates. We recommend scheduling a consultation with the respective department before you apply. You can talk to departmental advisors about the questions you have about the respective program, e.g.: What content does the program cover and what options do you have after graduation? Contact the coordinator for refugee students if you have questions about organizing your studies. Use the registration/appointment form to send us a message. We will gladly make an appointment to speak with you in person or will answer your questions via email or phone, if you happen to live further away.

If you would like to study at a university of applied sciences, you can request recognition of your certificate(s) from the Studienkolleg Konstanz.

If you are unsure about what is the right path for you, do not hesitate to contact us. Use the registration/appointment form to schedule an appointment.

If you need your certificates to apply for a job or professional training, you will need to talk to a different authority. Contact the following organizations for help identifying the correct authority for your certificates:
