Classics and the Ancient Near East – Bachelor of Arts

Undergraduate study programme leading to a first degree and providing qualifications and skills for future employment. If you are studying a different bachelor's programme in the humanities, you can also select this study programme as a minor subject.

This bachelor's programme is designed to convey a solid understanding of the cultures of classical antiquity and their reception. The interdisciplinary courses stretch from literary studies (Greek/Latin) via history to archaeology. The unique aspect of this study programme lies in its transcendence of traditional academic boundaries by linking historical findings (literary texts, physical legacies) and how they were perceived in the course of the centuries. Including the "Ancient Near East" extends the concept of "Classical Antiquity". This broad approach makes it possible to not only learn about the continued influence of Classical Antiquity on the "Renaissances" that occurred between the Middle Ages and the present day, but also the reception processes during Classical Antiquity.
