In each of the six departments of the Faculty of Sciences, there are numerous offers for international students. Whether you come to the University of Konstanz for a study abroad programme or a research internship, you will encounter a warm and open welcoming culture across all sections. The Faculty of Sciences is characterized by international and excellent research with close supervision, personal advising within the departments, so that it is taken care of all your needs.

On this webpage you will find all possibilities for your stay abroad. The departments are in charge of any academic issues and the International Office will additionally support you in preparing your very individual stay abroad.

Information of the Departments

Department of Biology

In the Department of Biology there is a wide range of courses on bachelor's and master's level, as well as the possibility of a research internship in a research group of a local researcher.

Department of Chemistry

In the Department of Chemistry, in addition to the courses offered in pure chemistry at the bachelor's level, there is also the possibility to study interdisciplinary courses such as Nano Science and Life Science.

Department of Computer and Information Science

The Department of Computer and Information Science offers a wide range of courses in English at bachelor's and master's level, as well as a master's programme in Computer and Information Science, which is taught entirely in English.

Department of Mathematics and Statistics

In the Department of Mathematics and Statistics you can attend courses from the Mathematics and Financial Mathematics programmes at bachelor's and master's level.

Department of Physics

The Department of Physics is characterized by a broad spectrum in research, from basic principles to cutting-edge applications, which is also reflected in the teaching at bachelor's and master's level.

In the Department of Psychology there are a variety of research groups with different research foci, which you can gain insight into during an exchange study.

Information about internships at the University of Konstanz

In all departments of the Faculty of Sciences, research is conducted at a high level. Within the framework of a research internship, you have the opportunity to actively work in a laboratory or a research group. In this way, you can either further specialize in an area or broaden your scientific profile. The Welcome Centre of the University of Konstanz supports you in planning non-academic matters for an internship.

Furthermore, you can get all important and necessary information about applying, studying and living in Konstanz. FAQs for Incomings

Do I have to be nominated by my home university?

In order to apply for a stay at the University of Konstanz as an exchange student, you have to be nominated by your home university. Nominations have to be made online via the platform Mobility Online. Our partner universities receive information about the nomination procedure from our International Office at the beginning of each year. 

Once you have been nominated you will receive a welcome email from our International Office with  information on how to proceed with your application.

What are the application deadlines?

After you have been nominated by your home university you have to apply. The application deadlines for exchange students (Erasmus+ and other programmes) are as follows:

  • 15 May for the winter semester (October to February)
  • 15 November for the summer semester (April to July)

All the applications from exchange students will be processed by our central International Office. Detailed information about the application procedure are available on this webpage.

Are there any language requirements?

As an exchange student you have to hand in proof of adequate language skills in either German or English as part of your application. The minimum level B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) will be required in all departments.

In the section  'Language requirements and certificates' on the webpage of our International Office, you will find a list of accepted language tests and certificates.

Where do I find further information about the course offer?

The courses of all Bachelor's and Master's programmes, as well as supplementary and interdisciplinary courses are listed in our online course catalogue ZEuS.

In the section 'Courses taught in English' you can find the complete English course offer.

Please note that you can select the respective semester on the very top of the list.

Are there any German language courses for Incoming exchange students?

The Institute of Foreign Languages (Sprachlehrinstitut/SLI) offers German language courses on different levels. Detailed information are available in the Incoming Student Guide.

Each semester our International Office offers the four-week orientation programme GO-Konstanz which includes an intensive Gernan language course.

Does the University of Konstanz offer housing for exchange students?

As exchange student of Erasmus+ or universtiy partnerships your application also contains the application for a room in a student residency of Seezeit.

The link to the online application in our portal Mobility Online is sent to all nominated students by the International Office.

Who are my contact persons before and during my stay at the University of Konstanz?

For first information and general questions you can contact the Coordinator for Exchange Mobilities of the Faculty of Sciences.

For academic issues, such as course selection and Learning Agreement, the Erasmus+ Coordinator in the respective department is the right person in charge for you.

Non-academic questions, such as the application procedure and housing, can be answered by the Incoming Team of the International Office.
