Funding by the federal government is 'top-down' - the government defines areas for which it provides funding.
Funding programmes are announced via so-called "Bekanntmachungen". The university (and not an individual researcher) is usually the applicant. This implies that the proposal needs to be signed by Kanzler Jens Apitz. We will collect the signature for you and will also read the proposal before you submit it.
Proposals are usually submitted online via the "easy-Online" system. Every proposal requires a form that needs to be filled out online, the "Antrag auf Gewährung einer Zuwendung auf Ausgabenbasis (AZA)". The system, as well as all forms that it provides, is in German only. The AZA includes various administrative data and some of the questions are difficult to answer - please contact us, we are happy to help. In the AZA, you also need to include the budget that you request for your project. The federal government asks for concrete sums, i.e. not lump sums. We will gladly calculate staff salaries for you. Please contact us early in the process so that we may make a precise calculation.
The proposal is submitted via the easy-Online system. After you have submitted the proposal electronically, you generate a PDF file, which needs to be signed by the university’s Kanzler. You will then send the signed paper version by post to the executive agency.
