Infinitely far, infinitely close
On 6 May 2022, citizens can enjoy exciting short talks at the second TEDx event in Konstanz, held in the Wolkenstein-Saal.
Spreading innovative ideas and fascinating insights is at the heart of the hugely popular TED-events, which originated in the US. Several stimulating short talks by researchers as well as artists and freelancers will take up the topic "Infinitely far, infinitely close" on 6 May 2022. The event, which is independently organized by the Konstanz TEDx Initiative, is open to everyone and will take place in the Wolkenstein-Saal of the Kulturzentrum am Münster.
"The COVID-19 pandemic - and the lock-down particularly - revolutionized our perception of time and space,” says Dr Caterina Moruzzi, co-organizer of the event and researcher in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Konstanz. “What before was close, for instance the market in our neighbourhood, suddenly became unreachable. And, on the other hand, through technology we have learned to bring closer to us events and persons that before were far away from us. Through the talks at TEDxKonstanz 2022, we want to bring this dichotomy to the fore and to question it: distances are relative, now more than ever."
In line with the motto "infinitely close", chemist Dr Cristina Ruiz Agudo from the University of Konstanz will talk about her research into the development of sustainable nano materials. Professor Lutz Beck from the Limnological Institute at the University of Konstanz discusses symbiosis: What does it mean for living beings to live extremely close together? Biologist Barbara Di Ventura from the University of Freiburg will explain how you can repair nature with nature.
Tom Hegen's aerial photography highlights looking at things from far away. Mark Kugel, marketing director of yuri GmbH, ponders whether weightlessness in space can advance medicine on earth.
More contrast and thus more variety will be provided in presentations on artificial intelligence (AI) by Buse Çetin, artist and AI-researcher, and María Alejandra Quirós Ramírez from the Zukunftskolleg of the University of Konstanz, who researches AI in the context of psychology. The presentation by the owners of the Haettelihof farm will take us back to the roots as well as into the future of farming.
Interest in the TEDx Konstanz event is very high. Order tickets via the website https://tedxkonstanz.com/. At a later stage, the talks will be uploaded online on the TEDx official channels.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
TED's open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; the TED Translators Program, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; the annual million-dollar TED Prize, which funds exceptional individuals with a "wish," or idea, to create change in the world; TEDx, which provides licenses to thousands of individuals and groups who host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
