Work processes at a workplace are complex. In most cases, we are not aware of which activities involve hazards with which work equipment at which time and in which location. We carry out our activities routinely, so what should happen?
To answer this question, a risk assessment follows a predefined scheme. Strictly speaking, each individual activity with different processes and work equipment at different workplaces is separated into individual sub-steps and a close look is taken at what can go wrong. As I said: "Strictly speaking". However, this is not always practicable.
Possible hazards are identified as part of a risk assessment and measures to protect employees are derived from this. As safety engineers, we are happy to advise our supervisors in this regard.
