The campus license for Citavi will expire on 31st March 2024
We recommend switching to Zotero.
Reference management is an important part of academic work. KIM provides campus licences for the reference management programs Citavi and Endnote and offers courses on Citavi, Endnote and Zotero.
Due to internal changes at the company to which Citavi belongs, we have observed a significant deterioration in provider support since the beginning of 2021, and data protection issues are also unresolved.
Other programmes in the area of knowledge organisation - long a unique selling point of Citavi - have caught up strongly. Therefore, the campus licence for Citavi, which runs until 31 March 2024, will not be extended.
We continue to offer a campus licence for EndNote and recommend alternatively the use of Zotero, an open source software that has greatly expanded the area of knowledge organisation in recent years.
The KIM recommends backing up your data from Citavi early on and considering switching to another reference management software in good time. Depending on your usage habits and the status of your writing projects, you will find various recommendations on the KIM website: Switch from Citavi to Zotero
