Conference “Body Image(s): What challenges from anthropo-technics?“
Conference on how technologies influence body image
From prostheses and implants to tattoos and piercings: We humans have developed a great number of technologies and methods to change our bodies and replace body parts. How anthropo-technics influences the body image and self-perception of humans will be the topic of the conference “Body Image(s): What challenges from anthropo-technics?” at the University of Konstanz. Researchers from eight countries will meet on 24 and 25 January in room H 309. The language of the public event is English and all interested visitors are very welcome.
“The aim of our conference is to study the processes underlying our body image, and to discuss how anthropo-technic influences this image”, explains the organizer of the event, Konstanz sociologist Dr Denisa Butnaru. Not only medical technologies such as prostheses and implants will be the topic of interest, but also tattoos, piercings and fashion. Moreover, the conference will also address distorted body perceptions, that often occur for example in cases of eating disorders.
