Migration meets Music – Vernissage and Music at the Café Mondial
On 6 November 2019, the exhibition of five artworks by British illustrator George Butler had its opening at the Café Mondial in Konstanz followed by music from the “Blue Stockings”
Humans migrate, animals migrate – “migration” is a central theme in both human societies and animal populations, deserving of observation and analysis from a variety of perspectives. As an award-winning artist, George Butler specialized on drawing animal and human migration, visiting crisis regions in the Middle East and South East Asia. His drawings of “Anima Mundi” are exhibited at the Café Mondial until the end of November.
At the beginning of the Vernissage, two researchers from the University of Konstanz held lightning talks. Andrea Flack (Biology / Cluster of Excellence “Collective Behaviour”) presented her research on storks and their migratory routs “In graphic detail: revealing the secret flight of storks”. Lorenz Wiese (Politics and Public Administration / member of the managing board of Café Mondial) provided input on current migration and asylum policies. He introduced Rap lyrics, which were written by German musicians expressing their experiences with being on the run and migration.
The diverse audience asked a lot of questions and a lively discussion developed. Finally, the all-female band “Blue Stockings” performed a selection of their songs contributing to an atmospheric evening.
The exhibition “Anima Mundi” organized by the Zukunftskolleg of the Konstanz University was previously staged at the University’s library.
