Server failure and disruption of IT services
In the early morning hours on Friday, 28 June 2019, the cooling system failed in a server room at the University of Konstanz. This resulted in the servers overheating. They then either automatically shut down or were temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure. Since then, some of the University of Konstanz’s IT services – including the website – were unavailable or only partially available.
The Communication, Information, Media Centre (KIM) is working on restoring all IT services. Most of them are already functioning again. It is however likely that some of the services might experience some instability or be limited in terms of availability until all issues have been resolved.
The reason for the cooling system failure was a technical problem affecting the supply of cooling water. The cooling system has now been switched into a different operational modus, is functioning again and will be closely monitored – especially over this weekend (29-30 June 2019).
The KIM news site will regularly update you in regard to the current status of the university’s IT services. Please contact our KIM support team should you have any questions or concerns.
