Cognitive behavioural Neuro-Psychotherapy for Patients with neurological disorders (PwND). Our intersectoral cooperative impulse project with the apb and the Kliniken Schmieder receives support!
Patients with neurologic disorders are often obstructed by disease related symptoms (e.g. pain, fatigue or lack of concentration and energy) as they manage the challenges of daily life including work, family and leisure activities. This frequently results in an imbalance between individual coping resources and environmental demands, which may factor in to the comparatively high rates of mental disorders (depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders) as well as a lack of societal participation (Isolation, lack of partnerships and jobs). For patients with neurologic and mental disorders psychological treatment is important. Therapists need expertise in both disciplines, in clinical neuropsychology as well as in psychotherapy.
There is a clear lack of behavioral psychotherapists with neuropsychological expertise treating neurologic out-patients.
The plan is to create an integrated and specialized ambulatory treatment setting for PwND by connecting knowledge about neuro-psychotherapy between university (University of Konstanz), clinic (Kliniken Schmieder Konstanz) and a cognitive behaviorally oriented training facility for Psychotherapy (apb) to students and psychotherapists (in training). To this end, an intersectoral cooperative initiative between local partners has been formed, that stand to benefit from this joined effort.
The long-term goal will be to support a group of patients that otherwise will remain significantly underserved.
The proposed project serves as an impulse and initial start-up.
