Why study natural sciences at the University of Konstanz?

Sometimes pictures say more than a thousand words: Science in Paradise

Study

The University of Konstanz is a modern campus university with flat hierarchies and short distances. The Faculty of Sciences is the largest of the three faculties of the University of Konstanz and consists of six departments: Mathematics and Statistics, Computer and Information Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Psychology. Our 3.400 students appreciate the strong focus on research and the access to well-equipped laboratories with cutting-edge technologies. Thanks to our small research groups, students have the opportunity for direct collaboration and contact with professors and principal investigators across all departments. With its interdisciplinary approach, the Faculty of Sciences allows gaining deep knowledge about the connection between natural phenomena, theories, and human behaviour.

Teaching

The Faculty of Sciences is deeply rooted in the principle of student-centered teaching and close links between research and knowledge transfer. Small seminar groups, interactive teaching formats, and lively discussions in class are core elements of the course structure within the departments of the Faculty of Sciences. Especially in the departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, hands-on laboratory work makes the mutual connection between practical experiences and theoretical thinking tangible for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Academic culture

Among the 100 professors and 700 employees are 30% of international researchers from diverse backgrounds, contributing to an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive academic atmosphere without language barriers. Well-structured support services in various domains of the university ensures academic and non-academic integration, irrespective of personal background. Moreover, collaboration with international researchers from all over the world, accompanied by research and conference stays abroad, forms an integral part of the academic culture.
