Jour Fixe: Jennifer Randerath "Motor Cognition and Neurorehabilitation"
The Zukunftskolleg invited everyone to the jour fixe led by Jennifer Randerath.
We invited you to our digital Jour fixe on Tuesday, 25 January.
Jennifer Randerath (Research Fellow / Psychology) reported on "Motor Cognition & Neurorehabilitation - Looking back on 7 years at the Zukunftskolleg".
Abstract:
Mental processes support the selection, preparation and production of actions. The ability, called Motor Cognition, is needed when performing skilled movements to interact with our environment. We use motor cognitive functions, when deciding how to grasp a handle or how to cross a street or while gesturing to communicate good bye. Motor cognitive performance can be altered during healthy aging. And, significant impairments can occur due to for example stroke or dementia, typically resulting in a syndrome called limb apraxia. Using a translational approach from fundamental to applied research in neurorehabilitation, we conducted three different lines of studies on movement selection, affordance based judgments as well as on tool-use. In this talk I will summarize our main findings that illustrate the complexity and importance of preserved motor cognitive functions.
The Motor Cognition and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory started its endeavors in 2014/2015. Looking back on seven years at the Zukunftskolleg with fondness, the presentation will certainly include some personal anecdotes.
