We sincerely regret the passing of Thomas Hengartner, our scientific advisory board member, close collaborator and friend. We have lost an outspoken, humorous and engaging personality.

The Zukunftskolleg extended its network of international cooperation partners by a partnership with the Waseda Institute for Advanced Study (WIAS) based in Tokyo.

Jolene Tan is the last of our new fellows from the 12th call for applications to join the Zukunftskolleg. She will start her 2-year Postdoctoral Fellowship on June 1st and is affiliated with the department of psychology.

Leila Whitley (Postdoctoral Fellow/Dept. of Literature) is a visiting scholar in the Sociology department at the University of Cambridge (UK) from 25 April until 25 May.

During May, Udith Dematagoda (Postdoctoral Fellow/Dept. of Literature) will work as Visiting Scholar in the Department of English at Cornell University, USA.

Denis Gebauer passed his habilitation and received the Venia Legendi in Chemistry at the University of Konstanz.

Today, the Zukunftskolleg has issued calls for applications for new support measures to increase the international mobility of our fellows and enlarge the intercultural atmosphere at the Zukunftskolleg. The Research Visits programme encourages temporary international research stays for our fellows (Outgoing Research Visits) as well as inviting excellent, early career researchers from around the world to visit the Zukunftskolleg (Incoming Research Visits).

We are happy to announce that Carolin Antos has been a Research Fellow at the Zukunftskolleg since April 1st.

UBIAS is a network of about 40 University-based Institutes for Advanced Studies worldwide, initiated in 2010.

Takayuki Kurihara has started his 5-year Research Fellowship on April 1st. He is affiliated with the department of physics and specialised in ultrafast optics.

"Archaeologies of Rules and Regulation - Between Text and Practice", edited by Barbara Hausmair (Alumna / Dept. of History and Sociology), Ben Jervis, Ruth Nugent, and Eleanor Williams has recently been published by Berghahn Books.

Nadir Weber (Postdoctoral Fellow / Dept. of History and Sociology) has accepted a position at the University of Bern, Switzerland.

In summer 2018, the Zukunftskolleg will issue new calls for applications for 2-year and 5-year fellowships. The upcoming call for applications is expected to open in July 2018. Envisaged deadline is October 2018.

We are happy to welcome Jolle Jolles to the Zukunftskolleg. He started his Postdoctoral Fellowship in March.

We welcome biologist Gisela Kopp, who is the first researcher to receive a Hector Pioneer Fellowship! Gisela joined the Zukunftskolleg on March 1, 2018.

Jeff is a philosopher and an Associated Fellow of the Zukunftskolleg. His book "Science as Social Existence: Heidegger and the Sociology of Scientific Knowledge" has recently been published under open-access by the not-for-profit, academic-run press, Open Book Publishers (Cambridge, UK).

Sven Lauer has invited Kjell Johan Sæbø as a mentor to Konstanz. Kjell Johan Sæbø is a Professor of German Linguistics at the Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages at the University of Oslo (Norway). He is an expert on semantics and pragmatics of natural languages.

We are happy to announce that Bianca Gaudenzi is now a Research Fellow at the Zukunftskolleg! Bianca joined the Zukunftskolleg in 2015 as a Postdoctoral Fellow and is associated with the Department of History.

Two new fellow representatives have been elected on the executive committee

Call for applications for postdoctoral fellowships in the humanities at universities and research institutes in Germany. The Zukunftskolleg is one of 14 host institutions.

Philip Rathgeb's Postdoctoral Fellowship starts today. He is associated with the Department of Politics and Public Administration. At the Zukunftskolleg, Philip will work on a project entitled "When populism meets government: The social policy impact of the radical right in Europe".

Archaeologist María Cruz Berrocal has been offered a tenure-track position at the Department of History at the University of Cantabria, Santander (Spain). She will start her new position in February.

Congratulations to Aline Steinbrecher! She passed her habilitation and received the venia legendi in Modern History at the University of Zurich, Switzerland.

When the Executive Committee will meet for the first time this year, on January 17, it can welcome a new member: Sven Lauer.

We congratulate Klaus Boldt, Research Fellow at the Zukunftskolleg since April 2015 and affiliated with the Department of Chemistry, on receiving a DFG Grant worth 218.450 euros.

Unai Atxitia Macizo (former Postdoctoral Fellow/Dept. of Physics) has been offered a junior group leader position at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at Freie Universität Berlin.

On the occasion of the Zukunftskolleg´s tenth anniversary Giovanni Galizia (Director of the Zukunftskolleg), Jennifer Randerath (Research Fellows/Dept. of Psychology) and Dennis Pingen (Postdoctoral Fellow/Dept. of Chemistry) were interviewed within the series “In dialogue”.

We are proud to welcome our first new Fellow from our 12th call for applications to the Zukunftskolleg: Udith Dematagoda has started his Postdoctoral Fellowship in December. For the next two years, he will be part of our community and work on his research project "Machine Men, Machine Minds, Machine Heart: Masculinity, Technology and Fascist Modernities". Udith is associated with the Department of Literature.

This year, the Zukunftskolleg had issued calls for applications for 5-year Research Fellowships, a 5-year Hector Pioneer Fellowship as well as for 2-year Postdoctoral Fellowships.

On two meetings in October and in November/December, the Recruitment Committee selected the candidates.
